(Los Angeles - February 7th, 2006) The first company to commit to supporting the 2006 Mardi Gras celebration and the overall rehabilitation of the City of New Orleans, The Glad Products Company, a subsidiary of The Clorox Company, joins the first-ever "Mardi Gras Ad Support and Sponsorship Program." The City and its agency-of-record for the initiative, MediaBuys, LLC, announced today that as a high-level program sponsor, the proceeds stemming from Glad's involvement will help New Orleans offset some of the significant cost associated with the event's production.
"The contributions and efforts on the part of Glad reflect how this program has evolved into a deeper, hands-on commitment to the cultural and economic restoration of New Orleans," remarks Chick Ciccarelli, CEO of MediaBuys, LLC. "We look forward to making more announcements of this kind in the coming days."
In addition to its significant program commitment, Glad will work with the City of New Orleans Department of Sanitation in the carnival's sanitation maintenance and clean-up efforts, which would otherwise have mounted a considerable expense for the municipality. Building on the significant cash and emergency supplies donated by The Clorox Foundation including more than 1.2 million Glad®ForceFlex® trash bags for American Red Cross relief efforts throughout the Gulf region Glad will donate more than 100,000 ForceFlex® trash bags, the official trash bag of New Orleans' Mardi Gras, and coordinate volunteers to aid in clean-up, pre- and post-Festival.
"We are very pleased and appreciative for the commitment Glad has made to assist the City in staging Mardi Gras," said Ernest Collins, New Orleans' Director of Arts and Entertainment. "Glad is leading the way for a host of good corporate citizens who are interested in helping the city in this time of need."
To source personnel for the clean-up initiatives, Glad will be joined by Becky Zaheri and her Katrina Krewe, a volunteer co-operative of more than 1,000 local residents dedicated to cleaning litter and debris from the streets of New Orleans.
The City of New Orleans will set up a Recovery Room at the Morial Convention Center to serve as a checkpoint for civilian volunteers. Parties interested in contributing to the volunteer effort can report to the Recovery Room to find out where their help is most needed. The City will also be placing information about event volunteerism on its Web site in upcoming weeks.
Additional sponsors are soon to be announced, and corporate sponsorship opportunities for Mardi Gras are still available.
